Bookings & Payments
How do I book?
In the "Book Direct" section the calendar shows the free nights. Pick your arrival and departure, the number of guests and whether you bring pets, and send the request. You get an email straight away with the summary and price, and we reply by email to confirm. Then we arrange the deposit.
Do I need to pay a deposit to confirm?
Yes, we ask for a 50% deposit to secure the dates, arranged with you after we confirm your request. The balance is paid by bank transfer or MB WAY before arrival. See our for details.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer and MB WAY. We don't take online payments on the site — everything is arranged directly with you by message.
Can I change my dates after booking?
Yes, whenever possible. Changes depend on availability and should be requested as early as possible.
Can I rent the house just for myself or for two?
Yes. The house is always rented as a whole, for your group only. The price is per person per night, with a minimum of 4 people: €160/night in summer and €120/night in winter.
Do you offer discounts for larger groups?
Send us a DM with the number of guests and your dates — we look at each case individually.

How many people does the house sleep?
Up to 6–7 guests across 3 bedrooms (main bedroom, double/twin room and bunk room).
What is included?
Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, bed linen, towels, private parking, a barbecue and a wood-fired oven. See the full list in "The House" section.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, Wi-Fi is included throughout the house.
Can I bring my pet?
Let us know in the booking form or by DM — we decide case by case, depending on the animal and the season.
Is the house shared with other guests?
No. The whole house is booked for your group — you never share it with other bookings.
Beaches & Activities
Do I need to surf to stay at the house?
No. The house is accommodation for everyone — families, friends, people coming to work or to rest. Surfing is just one of the things you can do in the area.
Which beaches are closest?
Buarcos Beach is 5 minutes away, and Murtinheira and Cabedelo about 10 minutes.
Do you offer surf lessons?
Surf coaching is a separate service from the house — see the Surf Coaching page. You don't need to stay at the house to train, nor train to stay at the house.

Yes. Portuguese law requires every guest to show valid ID at check-in for guest registration.

Booking data is kept for the period required by law for tax and registration purposes. ID documents are deleted as soon as there is no longer a legal obligation to keep them.
7. Your rights
You may at any time request access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to processing, or lodge a complaint with the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD). Contact us by Instagram DM to exercise these rights.

These Terms & Conditions govern all bookings and stays at Uncle Fernandez Surf House & Retreat, in Buarcos, Figueira da Foz, operated by António Pedro Fernandes. By booking, you accept the terms below.
1. Check-in and Check-out
Check-in from 3 pm. Check-out by 11 am. Other times only with prior confirmation.
2. Guest Identification
All guests must show valid ID at check-in, in line with the Portuguese legal guest-registration requirement.
3. Payments and Deposit
The booking is confirmed once a deposit of 50% of the total is paid, arranged by message after the request. The balance is paid before or on arrival, by bank transfer or MB WAY.

5. Accommodation and Services
The house is available as self-contained accommodation, with no services attached. Surf coaching is an independent service, booked separately.
6. House Rules
Respect the neighbours' rest and quiet, especially at night

7. Damage
Guests are responsible for damage to the house, furniture, equipment or linen during their stay, beyond normal wear and tear. Repair or replacement costs will be communicated and invoiced to the guest.
8. Surfing and Coaching Activities
Taking part in surf lessons, coaching or any sea activity is at the guest's own risk. We are not liable for loss, damage or injury during independent activities or outside the instructor's direct supervision.
9. Minors
Guests under 18 are only accepted when accompanied by a responsible adult.
10. Complaints
Any complaint can be made by Instagram DM during or after your stay. We always aim to resolve issues directly and quickly.
11. Right of Withdrawal
Under Portuguese Decree-Law no. 24/2014, accommodation contracts for specific dates are excluded from the right of withdrawal that applies to other distance contracts. Our Cancellation Policy applies instead.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by Portuguese law. Any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the Figueira da Foz court, without prejudice to alternative consumer dispute resolution.

Cancellation Policy

This Cancellation Policy applies to all bookings at Uncle Fernandez Surf House & Retreat.
1. Booking Deposit
To confirm the booking, we ask for a deposit of 50% of the total, arranged by message after the booking request.
2. Cancellation by the Guest
Within 48 hours of the booking request: free cancellation, deposit fully refunded.
More than 30 days before arrival: 50% of the deposit refunded.
Less than 30 days before arrival: deposit not refundable.
3. No-Show
If the guest does not arrive without prior notice, the booking is considered cancelled and the deposit is not refundable.
4. Early Departures
Nights not used due to early departure are not refunded.
5. Date Changes
Date-change requests depend on availability and may be treated as a new booking request outside the free-cancellation period.
6. Exceptional Cases
In case of serious illness, force majeure or other duly evidenced exceptional circumstances, we consider a refund or rescheduling case by case.
7. How to Cancel
Cancellations must be sent by Instagram DM (@uncle_fernandez_surf_coach). The cancellation date is the date the message is received.
